Meet the Instructors at CORE Academy
K-12 Educational Therapist
CORE Academy Founder
Through my own academic and emotional challenges going through our education system, teaching K - 8th, tutoring, consulting, leading parent workshops AND being a mother of 3 boys, 19, 17, and 15, I've come to realize our education system has it ALL wrong.
My mission is to educate, support and provide students and parents proven academic strategies so children WILL be SEEN, HEARD and UNDERSTOOD, no matter HOW they learn!
To teach children to BELEIVE they can accomplish ANYTHING they dream of, no matter how they learn, no matter how hard it may be at times, AND no matter WHAT people or society tells them.
I have always been a hands on learner, benefiting from activities, colors, and movement to help me learn new material. My goal as an educator is to encourage life-long learners, and a key component of meeting that goal is to provide an academically challenging learning environment where students feel safe to express their perspective, and are valued for that perspective. As a teacher my personal goal is helping students challenge themselves to see their own possibilities for their success, teaching them in ways that they can grasp and understand all subjects presented to them.
I attended University of Colorado- Boulder where I received my BA in English Literature and a Secondary English Language Arts Credential from CU Boulder's School of Education.
My whole life I have wanted to be a teacher, so each summer I would get a job at a camp or teaching swim lessons to gain more and more experience working with children. When it came time for me to go to college I chose Westmont in Santa Barbara, California and graduated with a multiple subject teaching credential. After college, with my teaching credential in hand, I searched for a teaching job and ended up at a middle school teaching 7th grade English and History. I quickly realized that this was not the teaching job I had dreamed of. It was impersonal; I had 75 students passing through the doors of my classroom daily. It was not focused on the building up the whole child. And I was tired of being led by administrators that don’t care as much as I do. That’s how I got here. I am excited to be part of the team at CORE Academy!
I am a recent graduate from UC Berkeley with a B.A in Anthropology specializing in Bio-archaeology and Bio-social and cultural studies. I also have an A.S in Applied mathematics, A.A in Mathematics and General Sciences, and an A.A in Behavioral and Social Sciences. I have always believed in diversifying what I learn and strive to be a lifelong learner. Part of my journey in learning is being able to share all the subjects and experiences that are available for everyone to learn. I hope to help others grow a passion for lifelong learning.
When I am not trying to learn new things I like to spend my time growing and maintaining coral reef tanks, playing with my pet bunnies, or going for runs and playing fetch with my dog Gerdy.

My name is Miss Becky. I have a BA in Liberal Studies with a minor in Child Development. I taught swim lessons for five years, which is what originally inspired me to become a teacher. I love working with children and helping them to overcome their fears to accomplish new heights; witnessing the joy they feel when they are able to reach a level of understanding in an area in which they previously struggled is the reason why I teach. Recently having a child of my own has deepened my love for the unique personality and journey of each child. I am excited to teach at Core Academy because of the ways in which children are taught according to their unique learning styles.
