Meet the Instructors at CORE Academy

Through my own academic and emotional challenges going through our education system, teaching K - 8th, tutoring, consulting, leading parent workshops AND being a mother of 3 boys, 23, 21, and 19, I've come to realize our education system has it ALL wrong.

My mission is to educate, support and provide students and parents proven academic strategies so children WILL be SEEN, HEARD and UNDERSTOOD, no matter HOW they learn!

My passion...

To teach children to BELEIVE they can accomplish ANYTHING they dream of, no matter how they learn, no matter how hard it may be at times, AND no matter WHAT people or society tells them.

Miss Madi  5/6 graders

I attended Bryn Mawr College where I received my B.A. in English Literature with a minor in Film Studies. Raised my two teachers, I have always loved education but felt discouraged when I saw their struggles in traditional public school. A few years ago I had an opportunity to work at a summer camp that encouraged hands-on, innovative learning and once again found a passion for teaching in non-traditional learning environments. I have taught and tutored in everything from Mathematics to Go-Kart building and design. I am excited to teach at CORE Academy because of the multisensory learning model which inspires students to learn and grow in their own way!

Miss Jackie   5/6 graders

My whole life I have wanted to be a teacher, so each summer I would get a job at a camp or teaching swim lessons to gain more and more experience working with children. When it came time for me to go to college I chose Westmont in Santa Barbara, California and graduated with a multiple subject teaching credential. After college, with my teaching credential in hand, I searched for a teaching job and ended up at a middle school teaching 7th grade English and History. I quickly realized that this was not the teaching job I had dreamed of. It was impersonal; I had 75 students passing through the doors of my classroom daily. It was not focused on the building up the whole child. And I was tired of being led by administrators that don’t care as much as I do. That’s how I got here. I am excited to be part of the team at CORE Academy!

MR. PEDRO  7/8 grade Math & Science

I am a recent graduate from UC Berkeley with a B.A in Anthropology specializing in Bio-archaeology and Bio-social and cultural studies. I also have an A.S in Applied mathematics, A.A in Mathematics and General Sciences, and an A.A in Behavioral and Social Sciences. I have always believed in diversifying what I learn and strive to be a lifelong learner. Part of my journey in learning is being able to share all the subjects and experiences that are available for everyone to learn. I hope to help others grow a passion for lifelong learning.
When I am not trying to learn new things I like to spend my time growing and maintaining coral reef tanks, playing with my pet bunnies, or going for runs and playing fetch with my dog Gerdy.

Mr Max  7/8 English & History

I became an educator because I dreaded school when I was younger. The rigidity of the classroom and repetitive lessons were unbearable. My goal is to help students avoid developing these same negative and debilitating views of the school. I value maintaining a positive rapport with each student, where they know that I am just as interested in hearing about their hobbies, and accomplishments outside of school as I am with seeing them succeed in school. My mission is to make sure my students always know I am a friend ready to help them with any challenge.

I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BA in English Literature and Human Development and Family Studies. Prior to coming to Core Academy, I worked as a full-time tutor in all subjects and standardized test prep. Outside of school, I enjoy writing, drawing, and fly fishing.

MISS SABRINA      3/4th grade

From helping raise seven beautiful nieces and nephews to my studies as a Child Development major at CSU East Bay, cultivating children’s love of learning has always been my passion. I am incredibly excited to be a part of Core Academy’s unique approach to education as I have come to appreciate the formative potential and value of a tailored learning environment. I hope to bring warmth, energy, and fun into the classroom while nurturing student’s curiosity through multi-sensory and personalized teaching methods. "

I have always been a hands on learner, benefiting from activities, colors, and movement to help me learn new material. My goal as an educator is to encourage life-long learners, and a key component of meeting that goal is to provide an academically challenging learning environment where students feel safe to express their perspective, and are valued for that perspective. As a teacher my personal goal is helping students challenge themselves to see their own possibilities for their success, teaching them in ways that they can grasp and understand all subjects presented to them.

I attended University of Colorado- Boulder where I received my BA in English Literature and a Secondary English Language Arts Credential from CU Boulder's School of Education.

 Mr.Dillon - Teacher/ "Mr. Mangipht"

I have been with CORE for two and a half years as a teacher's aide. Growing up, I always had had a hard time in school because of my learning challenges. Now that I am aware of them and comfortable with my challenges, I can see eye to eye with the students and help them overcome their challenges. I love working at CORE because there is no other school that caters so uniquely to our students.

KATIE HOGAN   CROSSFIT TEACHER

After being an athlete for all of my life, I found my love for helping people as a personal trainer.  Then in 2008 I discovered CrossFit and decided this was the best program to train both myself and others.  In 2009 I began coaching CrossFit and in 2011 I became a member of the CrossFit Level 1 and Level 2 Seminar Staff where I regularly travel the country and the world teaching CrossFit to new and experienced trainers alike.

CrossFit Kids has been a passion of mine since 2010 where I learned and practiced the techniques of adapting the CrossFit program and methodology to training children of all ability levels.

Since moving to the Tri-Valley area in 2012, I have coached strength and conditioning to student-athletes from San Ramon Valley High School, California High School, Amador Valley High School, Foothill High School, and Granada High School.  I have also trained youth fitness and sports performance classes at Core Performance in Dublin, CA.

I currently reside in Pleasanton with my husband Jesse and twin stepdaughters Kaycie and Sophia.
